The People
Due Punti was founded by Shinsuke Isaka. After falling love with wine in university through a bottle of Moscato d'Asti, Isaka-san spent his early career in wine import and distribution. He soon started exploring various other aspects of the wine business, moving on to New Zealand, London, and Italy to gain experience with winemaking and also wine service as a sommelier. After returning to Japan, he spent 3 years making wine at Camel Farm Winery.
Isaka-san approaches viticulture and winemaking with an intensity and depth that belies his warm and personable nature, and in doing so, creates not just stunning wines but leaves an impression on those he crosses paths with. We're truly honored to be representing his wines here in Singapore.
The Land
Situated in Fumizuki, Hokuto-shi, Due Punti's vineyards currently span 2-3 hectares, although Isaka-san has plans to increase this significantly in the coming years. It's a more hospitable here compared to some parts of Hokkaido due to the lower latitude and proximity to the Tsugaru Straits, with average temperatures here being the warmest in Hokkaido.
The topsoil here is also made up of volcanic andosols, which is thought to give the wines a unique softness on the palate.
The Wine
Unlike other parts of Hokkaido where Kerner is in the spotlight, Due Punti's flagship white wine is their Pinot Blanc. As a product of the warmer climate here, Due Punti's wines tend to be riper and more powerful than other parts of Hokkaido, and Isaka-san doesn't shy away from using some new oak as well in fermentation and aging.
As for reds, Isaka-san also cultivates various clones of Pinot Noir which are now being made into a single-varietal wine, and also Zweigelt and Merlot which are blended into a Rosso.
